Why this site exists
Search for something like “why is WhatsApp using so much storage” and you get a page that takes six paragraphs to say “clear your cache”, wrapped around four ads and a newsletter popup. The answer is usually in there somewhere, but you have to dig for it.
We structure every guide the other way round. The direct answer sits at the top in plain language. Underneath it, the explanation: what is actually consuming the space, which fixes are safe, which ones lose data, and what will not work at all.
How guides get written
Guides are written and reviewed by the FixMyTech editorial team. We publish under a single editorial identity rather than individual bylines, and the team is accountable for what appears here. When a menu path differs between iOS versions or between Samsung and Pixel, we say so rather than picking one and hoping.
Guides carry a visible last-updated date because this material goes stale. An iOS update moves a setting and a guide that was correct in March is wrong by September. Oureditorial policy sets out how we review and correct published work.
What we will not do
- Recommend software we would not use. Most “cleaner” apps range from useless to actively harmful, and we say which.
- Pad an article to hit a word count. If the fix is three steps, the guide is short.
- Upload your files. Every tool on this site processes data in your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, which is why we can promise it rather than merely assert it in a privacy policy.
How we make money
Display advertising, and eventually affiliate links on hardware recommendations where they are genuinely relevant. Ad slots are marked, and they never change what a guide recommends — if the honest answer is “the free built-in tool is fine”, that is what the guide says.
We do not accept payment for coverage or for favourable placement in a guide. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed prominently, not in a footnote.
